Run a Minecraft server that costs nothing while nobody plays

A PaperMC server runs on one machine. When the last player leaves you stop it, and only the world on disk keeps billing.

Preview

A small island of blocks with a tree and hills rests on a flat disk under a crescent moon: the world is saved and the server is asleep.

Nothing has used anything yet.

  • vCPU burned: 8 uc per second ($0.03 an hour)
  • GiB of memory in use: 3 uc per second ($0.01 an hour)
  • TiB of disk stored: 40 uc per second ($0.14 an hour)

An estimate, off the ix rate card. A running machine pays for the CPU it burns, the memory it uses and its disk. A stopped machine pays for its disk only. A removed machine pays nothing. 1 uc is a millionth of a dollar. Rounded to the cent from one cent up, to a hundredth of a cent below that. Durations are illustrative.

No server yet. Alex and Steve want to play.

Preview. The ix.machines accessor is not released yet. Illustration. The timings and output lines are written by hand, not recorded from a run. Starting the server again is a call you make, or a script that watches for players. ix does not wake a machine on its own.
